As the Product Manager, you will join an elite team committed to changing health care through outstanding service and valuable products. You'll use innovative tools including the largest database of health care information in the world. You will perform mathematical analyses and actuarial modeling to identify statistical findings and conclusions. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, evaluate, and deploy cutting-edge methods and models for healthcare payers, including but not limited to rating, risk assessment, cost estimation, and behavior modeling
  • Understand and build pipelines of predictive ML models in R and Python
  • Perform data quality evaluation, manipulation, cleaning, and appropriateness for model fitting or production
  • Collaborate with team in coding environment, utilizing best practices of development, model maintenance, and version control
  • Work on a team with energetic actuaries and data scientists
  • Perform quantitative analysis of Actuarial, financial, utilization and cost data
  • Brainstorm, design and construct novel analytical and operational solutions for payers
  • Participate in client and vendor relationships
  • Collaborate and network with other professionals, both within and external to Optum
  • Lead and mentor junior analysts

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (STEM field) or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience with developing predictive models in a business setting. Specifically, (5+ years with the below)
    • Building pipelines of analysis in programming languages such as R, Python, SAS, SQL, Databricks
    • Building and deploying machine-learning models which use techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, GLM, GAM, etc.
    • Develop monitoring pipelines to ascertain sensible model applicability once in production
    • Assess data quality, execute data manipulation and data cleaning
    • Maintain deep understanding of best standards of practice using these methods
    • Experience working on a team that collaborates building projects/models in code using GitHub
    • Expertise working with formulas, calculations, charts, graphics in MS Excel
  • 2+ years of experience with actuarial modeling

Preferred Qualifcations:

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, or related field
  • 5+ years experience working within the US healthcare industry/claims experience
  • 5+ years experience with actuarial modeling
  • Qualified or nearly qualified Actuary
  • High level organizational and project management skills for handling multiple concurrent assignments in a timely manner, and to monitor processes throughout a team or department
  • Solid decision-making skills
  • Works effectively in a team environment

Competencies:

  • Data Architecture - Knowledge and ability to create models and standards to govern which data is collected, and how it is stored, arranged, integrated, and use in data systems and organizations
  • Data Mining - Knowledge of tools, techniques and practices in data mining technologies used to acquire essential business information
  • Machine Learning -Knowledge of principles, technologies, and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products, and services
  • Modeling: Data, Process, Events, Objects - Knowledge of and the ability to use tools and techniques for analyzing and documenting logical relationships among data, processes, or events
  • Query and Database Access Tools - Knowledge of and the ability to use, support and access facilities for extracting and formatting a database management system
