Viasat is a leader in providing practical solutions for difficult communication problems and we want you to be a part of our team.The day-to-dayAs a leader of one of our dynamic product development teams, you will use your engineering expertise and customer solution intelligence to design, implement, document, test, troubleshoot and deploy FSO communications solutions; diagnose and resolve complex problems, provide critical technical support, and maintain a variety of engineering skill sets.

You will manage a spectrum of internal development, capital, and contract programs; across a variety of related technology. You must be able to digest new technology quickly, consensus build solutions to new challenges, engage with multiple customer groups and drive execution. You will have the opportunity to support the growth of the business not just through overseeing development of technology but also through supporting proposal development and customer engagement.

You will architect new solutions and influence emerging technology to address customer challenges. You will be directly involved in a diverse number of communications programs and projects for US DoD customers as well as commercial applications. This fast-paced multi-tasking environment requires you to interact with a broad spectrum of program managers, hardware/software/project engineers and various internal support organizations on a regular basis.

You will oversee the most complex optical and mechanical hardware problems. You will be empowered to research technological advancements and evaluate complex technologies to understand their potential. You will occasionally travel to participate in field work at customer sites internationally and domestically.

The ideal candidate will be located in either Carlsbad, CA or Tempe, AZ; however, this role may also be remote.What you'll need5+ years' experience with design, analysis, and prototyping of free space optical communication systems; including link budget analysis5+ years' experience with system performance modelling using commercial software tools, such as MATLAB, Ansys, STK 3+ years' leading free space optical system development or production5+ years' experience with free space optical systems requirements developmentExperience with Agile development framework and practices Management of multi-disciplinary teams over diverse geographical locationsAbility to manage proposal efforts and participate in ongoing business developmentMasters Degree in engineering, physics, or related technical disciplineUS government position.
