As a Monitoring Engineer specializing in Datadog, Instana, and AppDynamics, your role is crucial in ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of complex software applications and infrastructure. You will be responsible for implementing, configuring, and managing monitoring solutions using these tools to proactively identify and resolve any potential issues or bottlenecks. Your expertise in monitoring and observability will help maintain a stable and high-performing environment for critical business applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring Solution Implementation: Design, deploy, and configure monitoring solutions using Datadog, Instana, and AppDynamics to monitor applications, servers, databases, networks, and other infrastructure components.
  • Alerting and Incident Management: Create and fine-tune alerting mechanisms based on predefined thresholds and critical metrics to ensure timely identification and resolution of issues. Respond to and manage incidents promptly, escalating when necessary.
  • Performance Optimization: Analyze application and system performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and work closely with development and infrastructure teams to optimize performance and scalability.
  • Troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis: Investigate and resolve complex technical issues by analyzing logs, metrics, and system behavior. Conduct thorough root cause analysis and provide recommendations for preventing future incidents.
  • Monitoring Strategy Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and refine monitoring strategies, including data collection, visualization, and reporting, to meet business objectives and improve overall system health.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain comprehensive documentation of monitoring configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps. Share knowledge and best practices with team members and stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest monitoring tools, technologies, and trends. Proactively identify opportunities to enhance monitoring capabilities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Works intuitively and uses experience to deliver high impact engineering solutions. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here's what we need from you:

  • Bachelors - Computer Science or related
  • 6+ Years - (Software) Engineering, DevOps or related
  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Previous experience as a Monitoring Engineer or similar role, with a strong focus on using DataDog, Instana, and AppDynamics for application and infrastructure monitoring.
  • Monitoring Tools: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with DataDog, Instana, and AppDynamics, including configuration, customization, and automation of monitoring solutions.
  • Proficiency in monitoring application performance, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance using APM tools like Instana and AppDynamics.
  • Familiarity with monitoring infrastructure components such as servers, databases, networks, containers, and cloud platforms using DataDog and other relevant tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate complex technical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
  • Any relevant certifications in DataDog, Instana, AppDynamics, or other monitoring tools would be preferred
  • Hands-on experience with UNIX and or/SQL
  • Experience in scripting and automation tools such as Python, PowerShell or Bash
  • Experience working in an Agile environment

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $104,000.00 to $175,600.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
