Position Overview

  • The Senior Application Analyst functions as the primary lead for deploying, overseeing, and optimizing biospecimen management software (Freezerworks) within YCCI. The analyst works with various research teams to evaluate their needs for biospecimen management and will develop workflows and project plans that meet or exceed those needs. The analyst will work with end-users to scope, build, and optimize the specimen management database. Ongoing maintenance, optimization, and updates of the biospecimen management database are also within this individual's scope. The analyst is also responsible for creating and updating standard operating procedures for use of the system and training end-users in use of the system. The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills. A high degree of competency with Microsoft Office as well as superior organizational, time management, and teaching skills are required. Leadership and the ability to coordinate cross-functional projects are needed.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • 1. Provides technical expertise in critical and complex areas and lead major projects. Develops large programs and systems. 2. Takes leadership role in the design and delivery of applications, programs, and systems. Evaluates departmental business and administrative processes and needs. Ensures the expectations of stakeholders intended end users needs, scheduled timeline, and budgetary targets are met. 3. Defines and executes quality assurance and unit testing procedures to ensure high quality solutions. Provides a lead role in the collaborative process of planning, developing and implementing business solutions. Performs complex and unusual problem solving. 4. Provides technical guidance to leadership. Takes leadership role in providing recommendations, technical guidance, project definition, and development of the technical design and documentation for projects which includes architectural design, technology selection and methodologies to apply. Creates, communicates, and manages project plans. 5. Leads and oversees ongoing maintenance and support for applications and systems. Interfaces with vendors to resolve major software issues. Responsible for final decisions on purchases of hardware and software products. 6. Drive the development of systems documentation. Develops formal design proposals and cost and time estimates for new systems. 7. Leads, trains, and mentors technical staff. Oversees and provides training for end users. 8. Recommends and creates new policies and best practices. 9. Applies and keeps current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies. Provides ongoing input to the establishment of programming standards, procedures, and methodologies. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree. Six years of related experience in analysis and programming of medium to large-scale systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated competence in developing, managing, and optimizing biospecimen management tools. Broad experience in developing biospecimen data management plans and workflows for multiple, diverse research applications is desired. Proven ability to integrate end-user requests and optimal workflow principles into the biospecimen management process is required.
    Required Skill/Ability 2: : Experience in coordination and participation in clinical trials and/or biospecimen collection or processing, including patient enrollment, sample collection processes, and handling, storage, and distribution of biospecimens. Strong understanding of the nuances of different biospecimens including stability, storage, and utility of biospecimens.
    Required Skill/Ability 3: : Ability to coordinate with various research groups to scope needs and design of biospecimen management software to create an efficient, effective, and user-friendly tool. Ability to train end users, develop standard operating procedures to guide researchers in the use of the biospecimen software, and ensure ongoing optimization of software and implementation of upgrades.
    Required Skill/Ability 4: : Successfully manage multiple concurrent projects ensuring consistent progress. Ability to design project goals, develop timelines, provide succent and useful updates, and complete projects in a timely manner. Ability to function independently with minimal oversight to keep projects moving despite obstacles encountered.
    Required Skill/Ability 5: : Possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage working groups of users/potential users of biospecimen management software. Works well with leaders to effectively communicate progress, blocks, and what is required for successful completion of projects. Demonstrates ability to accept and integrate feedback into daily activities.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong understanding and experience with Microsoft Office is required as well as well-developed presentation skills. Consistently demonstrates the ability to adhere to quality assurance standards, system development and delivery methodology. Knowledge of 21CFR and HIPAA requirements preferred.
