The consumer experience in healthcare can be complicated and hard to navigate. This makes it challenging for consumers to shop for and get the most out of their health plans. It is critical for us at UHC to continuously understand and make improvements to the consumer journey as those consumers make decisions about and manage their care. This includes the consumer journey related to managing prescriptions.

Managing prescription medications can be a highly disjointed experience for consumers who are often presented with a myriad of competing and disconnected means of researching and pricing drugs, comparing pharmacy options, transferring prescriptions, navigating prior authorizations, and paying for medications. And because the Manage Prescriptions journey is the most frequently access benefit and often the first experience a consumer has with their health plan, this represents a significant opportunity to improve consumer experience.

The Sr Product Manager, Pharmacy Experience, is a critical role within the Manage Prescription journey team. This role will work across multiple UHG functions in implementing product strategies, mapping the consumer journey, and analyzing data to recommend and inform prioritization of the enterprise pharmacy experience backlog. They will facilitate and support the identification of new opportunities to improve how teams work (individually and together), overseeing the multiple initiatives related to delivering on backlog priorities, tracking and measuring progress, and communicating that progress.

While the focus of the work for the entire Manage Prescription journey team is improving consumer experience, getting there will involve effectively bringing together teams from across all of UHG, including but not limited to Analytics, Product, Technology, Operations, Digital, Consumer Insights, Finance, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Product Portfolio Management - Regularly facilitate the bringing together of various product owners to review and discuss product backlogs. This requires detailed working knowledge of product teams' priorities and overall alignment with business goals. It includes the need to develop and articulate a view of the whole UHC 3.0 Manage Prescriptions product portfolio (comprised of multiple portfolio sub-sets), and help teams determine the relevance and priority of backlog items in the context of consumer need, market strategy, and business objectives. This will require creative thinking and the challenging of current thinking in ways that bring people along in understanding and decision making
  • Execution Management - Monitor and track the activities within the Manage Prescriptions experience team and across the supporting matrix teams to ensure the right work is getting acted on at the right time and in concert with one another to deliver the defined consumer outcome. This will require identifying and influencing activities along the way (eg, speed up, slow down, more investment, etc.) This will include maintaining knowledge and tracking of operational and capital funding associated with activities
  • Tracking & Measurement - It will be critically important for the Manage Prescriptions experience team to track and measure progress of all initiatives. This role will be instrumental in the development and ongoing evolution of how this gets accomplished. This will include identifying what we should be measuring, what metrics should be captured to conduct said measurement, etc. This will involve regularly revisiting metrics, and identifying trends, and making recommendations on how to make adjustments
  • Communication - Help team members at all levels (line-level staff through to executives) understand how the Manage Prescriptions experience team is advancing the consumer agenda. This includes the effective development of multiple communication modes, including presentations, white papers, video demonstrations, etc. It will be critical for our stakeholders to understand how we are making a difference

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3+ years experience in product and|or capability management roles
  • 3+ years experience supporting senior management teams
  • 3+ years experience in project management
  • 3+ years experience developing business cases
  • 2+ years experience developing product and|or capability requirements
  • 2+ years experience participating in budget developing cycles
  • 2+ years experience with agile framework

Preferred Qualifcations:

  • MBA or MHA
  • 3+ years Healthcare industry experience
  • 2+ years Management consulting experience
  • 2+ years Pharmacy, pharmacy benefit experience (PBM), Retail pharmacy
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Proven communication skills, both oral and written

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $97,300 to $176,900. The salary range for Connecticut/Nevada residents is $97,300 to $176,900.
