Directs, plans, and organizes the team members and activities related to compensation strategy programs including competitive assessment and job evaluation. Develops, articulates and operationalizes the short-term strategy for Compensation Strategy including ongoing evaluation, maintenance and transformation of the System's non-physician, non-executive compensation strategy and programs.


  • Develops, communicates, builds consensus and executes Northwell's compensation strategy for non-executive/non-physician population in close partnership with VP Compensation Strategy, site HR, Workforce Planning, Finance, HR Operations and other partners across the system
  • Leads the Compensation Strategy team in the analysis of complex issues, data, processes and circumstances where the advanced knowledge of compensation objectives and industry knowledge is required, and which may have long term impact
  • Facilitates the Compensation Strategy team's review of Health System's positions relative to market and determination of appropriate salary ranges and attributes of jobs
  • Leads the evaluation of jobs using the Health System career framework by reviewing job descriptions, benchmark data both internally and externally to ensure the Health System's job design is aligned with our internal career framework and with market
  • Responsible for the compensation year-end process including annual merit increases, across the board increases and short-term incentives. Partners with Career and Performance Development team in the Pay for Performance process
  • Leads Compensation Strategy team in its advisory capacity to Health System leaders
  • Supports site HR in the administration of the health system's compensation programs
  • Guides site HR in their development and modification of job descriptions in accordance with our career framework and aligned with system-requirements
  • Drives departmental goals and objectives, and improves department performance across multiple sites
  • Provides direction and guidance to managers as they assess and leverage skills of the team to ensure development and training opportunities
  • Leads the development of training and communications initiatives of new compensation programs or adjustments to existing program the Health System working in conjunction with Communications team
  • Prepares department budget for review/approval and is responsible for managing the budget on a day-to-day basis
  • Monitors performance against plans and acts to close identified gaps
  • Collects, analyzes and summarizes compensation information to satisfy statutory, regulatory, union and organization requirements in collaboration with Labor Relations, Employee Relations and Talent Acquisition
  • Participates in due diligence, integration and education of acquisitions
  • Selects, develops, manages, and evaluates direct reports and supports the people management activities of indirect hires
  • Performs related duties, as required


  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 8-12 years of relevant experience including 7+ years of leadership/management experience, required.
  • Labor/pay equity experience, preferred.
