Responsibilities Include:The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) at the Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking applicants as a National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC) Testbed Support Engineer.

The NRIC Reactor Experiment Support Engineer will support the lead reactor experiment engineer to facilitate the review, installation, and operation of advanced micro reactors at the NRIC testbeds. The positions will be in the Reactor Project Engineering department at MFC and is collocated with the NRIC testbeds. Engineers in the Reactor Project Engineering Department are classified as Nuclear Research Facility Engineers.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for the Department of Energy. The NRIC testbeds provide a unique capability to allow testing of first of a kind advanced micro reactors. Being collocated with MFC allows reactor developers to leverage additional nuclear fuels research and development expertise along with numerous post-irradiation examination and analytical capabilities.

The successful candidate will be assigned to support advance reactor experiment projects. The NRIC Reactor Experiment Support Engineer must have a wide range of skills and deep background in large scale technological projects including system engineering, requirements management, digital engineering, project engineering, project coordination, and customer interaction. The successful candidate will work with NRIC and MFC personnel to ensure proper oversight of advanced reactors is completed.

The successful candidate will apply knowledge, practices, and techniques to develop designs for new or modified systems, processes, and specialized equipment through design and implementation phases for reactor support projects in the test bed facilities. In this role the reactor experiment engineer will work with the reactor experiment lead engineer and various NRIC stakeholders to support implementation of advanced reactors in the test bed. Technical understanding of system design requirements, system performance criteria, physical configuration, operation, testing, and maintenance of assigned systems and components is key.

Key functions of the role are: Preform System and Project Engineering role for assigned testbed support projects Perform Lead Engineer role for project installation Perform Design Engineer role for modifications to support operational and research needs Perform as Lead Engineer for ancillary projects as assigned by engineering manager Configuration Management of assigned systems/projects Specify equipment maintenance for assigned systems Monitor performance of assigned systems Failure analysis for assigned systems Operations Support for assigned systemsQualificationsMinimum Requirements: PR0300/PR0400: Bachelor's degree in an applicable engineering discipline and 5-8 years relevant engineering experience, or a master's degree and 3-6 years relevant experience Applicable degrees include; Mechanical, Nuclear, Chemical, Electrical, and Instrumentation & Control's engineering, Aerospace (other degrees may be considered with sufficient relevant experience) Ability to design, analyze and evaluate assigned systems Ability to communicate with operations, engineering, nuclear safety, maintenance, and programmatic personnel both verbally and through written products Ability to identify and execute engineering work tasks such as design efforts, maintenance activities and operating written instructions Ability to plan, organize, and lead engineering work Familiarity with digital and systems engineering methods and tools Preferred Skills: Experience performing system engineering functions within a nuclear facility/environment Professional Engineering License Travel - baseline of 25% with occasional periods of higher frequency Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" clearanceJob Information: Salary Grade PR0300 - 220 ($107,520 - $177,336)/PR0400 - 230 ($121,212 - $206,232) Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and the selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skillsTDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employmentChosen applicants are required to show a demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environmentINL Overview:INL is a science-based, applied engineering national laboratory dedicated to supporting the U.S. Department of Energy's mission in nuclear energy research, science, and national defense.
